Top 5 Kitchen Trends For 2022

Our kitchens are getting some serious attention, especially when it comes to bespoke design, and the past year and a half has seen major innovations in the heart of the home. We've created kitchens swathed in colour, full of natural, craftsman-made liquid metal features and ultimately become one-of-a-kind, exciting places for the family to work, play, eat, and of course, cook.

We're predicting 2022 will see an even greater rise in kitchens that reflect our personal tastes, luxurious collections, and our desire for a bespoke one-of-a-kind Kitchen that truly fit our specific needs.

We've asked designers from around the country, along with the KoolCreations Team to share their thoughts on which design elements and concepts will be leading in the kitchen come 2022.

We are excited to say that we can expect even more colour, lavish details, and exciting liquid metal innovations that will restore this ever-important space as the heart and soul of the home once more.

1. Mixing Materials for a More Design-Centric Cookspace

Over the last year and a half people are more willing to invest in their kitchens than ever before, bespoke creative design is becoming the top priority. This is exemplified in the growing trend of mixing various materials throughout the space, as shown here in this lively kitchen. A delicate balance of masculinity and femininity comes from mixing a dark wood-panelled island with white oak latticework on the cabinets and a hand-painted botanical wallcovering with upholstered leather seating. These juxtapositions are what make our favourite living and dining spaces so special, and why not the kitchen, too?

Houston-based designer Benjamin Johnston says to keep your eyes out for fabulous brass accents, as they are "holding strong as we head into the new year," and his team continues to see them all over the kitchen from appliances and cabinetry hardware to plumbing and lighting.

"I'm so pleased that wood tones are making it back into the kitchen, too," says Virginia-based designer Avery Frank. "It appears to be starting with warm, light oaks which pair so beautifully with burnished brass or bronze."

2. Focusing Our Attention to Cabinetry

A recurring theme our designer panel shared was an increasing interest in giving more attention to cabinetry design. while we are loving the range of woods being used, more and more people are opting for one-of-a-kind liquid metal finishes. Like brushed metal and hand carved gold designs, we are also expecting an expansion in cabinetry materials in the coming year.

"I believe that we will see unexpected materials—plaster, glamorous stone, and rough concrete—that will no longer be limited to countertops, but instead make their way to kitchen cabinetry," says Chicago designer Michael del Piero. South Florida-based designer Heather Weisz says she is excited to see more sleek, furniture-like cabinetry and the rise of luxurious metals to create stunning cabinets and doors.

3. Statement Making Metal's

In our kitchen designs, we’re utilizing and fabricating liquid metal in unique ways, and we see designers across the industry doing the same.

Finding a show-stopping metal finishes to use as a primary design theme, countertop, backsplash, or even as the base of a kitchen island. This creates visual interest and a more layered look for those who prefer minimalism and neutral colours.

As the kitchen becomes increasingly more dramatic and design-oriented, adding bespoke liquid metal features could be just the touch you need to bring some life and drama to the kitchen room.

"We are seeing some dramatic elements in kitchen design recently,"

"Subtle surfaces seem to have been replaced with statement making metals that have heavy and dramatic effect. It’s not just found on countertops, either. We’re seeing integrated metals fabricated out of same material as the countertop surfaces, so that there is a fully cohesive aesthetic."

4.Prioritizing Colour

Colour, colour, and, yes you guessed it, more colour! was a resounding prediction from our team.

A number of clients we are currently working on for, said they didn't want white cabinetry. And tired of being restricted to a white kitchen. These clients are looking to make a more powerful statement in this important space.

Colour is being used in unexpected ways in the kitchen right now, which we love. People are less inclined to play it safe and are choosing bolder hues for their cabinetry. We are am also seeing the use of more interesting resin worktops. Our clients are incorporating colour, dramatic metal features, and bespoke backsplashes with really pretty and thoughtful detailing.

5.Greens & Metals Are Here To Stay

If the announcements from leading paint companies on their 2022 colours of the year have any indication (PPG, Sherwin-Williams, and Valspar all chose shades of green), bringing the beauty of the outdoors and combining with luxurious metals, will remain a key design element for kitchens in 2022. Whether you prefer a moody, muted green like Sherwin-Williams's Evergreen Fog, Valspar's pretty and pastel Blanched Thyme, or PPG's energizing Olive Sprig, the future is looking set for green and metal interiors, and that's especially true for the kitchen.
